General Information for “Get Ahead” & Recovery/Retake

 

Dates

  • Summer School begins Monday, June 2 for Career Prep Session I and Driver Ed. Kinesiology, Health, Retake/Recovery, ACCESS Elective courses will begin Wednesday, June 4.  In-person classes will not meet on Thursday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth.  
  • Registration opens Monday, April 21 and closes Friday, May 9 for get-ahead courses and those who failed a core course Semester 1.   Enrollment in summer school courses is limited to Homewood City School students only.  Get-ahead courses (Driver Ed) will  be capped so students are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
  • Career Prep Session 1 – June 2-13 (in person, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
  • Career Prep Session 2 – June 16-27 (in person, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) (no class on June 19)
  • Kinesiology – June 2-13 (in person, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
  • Health – June 4-27 (online via ACCESS, students must be present at HHS to take tests)
  • Driver Education – June 2-3 (in person, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.); additional days during June to drive with instructor
  • ACCESS Get-Ahead electives- June 4- July 18.  Students must be present during June summer school hours to take tests and will schedule tests with Mr. Deavers in July as needed.
  • Retake/Recovery Classes – June 4-27 (in person, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., except June 19); Students who fail a Semester 2 course will be able to register after Memorial Day.
  • Wednesday, June 19 – Summer School & HHS will be closed in observance of Juneteenth

Courses

  • Get-Ahead Classes include Career Prep, Kinesiology, Health, Driver Education, and ACCESS electives.
  • Career Prep - the course is offered in person at HHS, two sessions offered; see above for dates/times
  • Kinesiology - the course is offered in-person at HHS; see above for dates/times
  • Health – the course is offered online through ACCESS; students may work on assignments at home at their own pace, but tests must be taken at HHS during summer school hours ( M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., no Summer School on June 19); Health coursework must be completed by June 27 at 12:00 p.m.
  • Driver Education – in-person instruction for all students will take place June 2-3; individual driving sessions with the HHS instructor will be scheduled during the month of June; Driver Ed spots are limited to 50 students.
  • Retake/Recovery Classes – students retaking classes to recover credit will begin with an in-person orientation on Wednesday, June 4; in-person work begins Thursday, June 5. Students may retake core classes they have previously failed to gain credit & get back on track toward graduation; counselors are available to provide advisement on classes that need to be retaken for credit to ensure students are on track to graduate; most core classes will be offered during summer school; retake/recovery classes are offered online through ACCESS but students must be present at HHS to complete coursework; if a student completes all required coursework before June 27, they will not need to continue attending summer school.  Students who fail Semester 2 HHS courses will register for summer school beginning May 27, 2025.

Registration for HHS Summer School 2025

  • Registration is live on the HHS website via Google Forms beginning April 21, 2025.
  • The online registration forms should be used to register for Get-Ahead and retake/recovery classes.
  • The deadline for registering for Summer School Get-Ahead and classes failed Semester 1 will be Friday, May 9th.
  • Students & families should be mindful of dates, costs, and learning format commitments before completing the registration form.
  • After completing the registration form, students will confirm registration by making a payment online. You will be emailed a statement from Bright Arrow to pay your fee. Statements will be sent beginning May 13. Registration is complete once payment is received. 
  • Enrollment in summer school is limited to currently-enrolled students in the Homewood City Schools System.

Cost

  • Single course - $100
  • Multiple courses - $150 Total
  • Free/Reduced Lunch Rate - $50 for one course, $75 for multiple courses
  • You will be emailed a statement from Bright Arrow to pay your fee. Statements will be sent beginning May 13. Registration is complete once payment is received. We will keep a "waiting list" for Driver Ed. The first 50 (by timestamp) will receive a statement and the rest will go to the "waiting list". If not paid by May 23rd, we will move to the "waiting list"!
